Apprenticeships
WPMC and TEC Services Consulting, Inc., with an Apprenticeship Expansion Grant from the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity (DCEO), are working to establish and expand apprenticeships in the 10–County North East Economic Development Region of Illinois. The grant supports Regional Apprenticeship Navigators who serve as technical experts on apprenticeships in the region. With the goal of building regional capacity, the Navigators will work with businesses, intermediaries and other partners to create and expand apprenticeship programs. While building on current successful apprenticeship programs and models, the Navigators will also look into sectors that have not traditionally used apprenticeship models, such as Healthcare and Technology.
Apprenticeships are a proven, work-based training model that benefits both workers and businesses. Job seekers and current employees looking to improve their skills receive training and advancement in a range of career pathways. Businesses that sponsor apprenticeships can upskill their current workforce and/or train new workers with the knowledge and skills necessary to fill the businesses’ open positions for the long-term. We want to promote youth apprenticeships, pre-apprenticeships, registered and unregistered apprenticeships as an option for employers in the Chicagoland region to consider in meeting their talent needs.
